David Frost

The legendary broadcaster Sir David Frost moved to Kempston in 1942. His father was the Reverend W J Paradine Frost who became minister of the Kempston East and West Methodist churches in the same year. Years later, after a illustrious broadcasting career that included his involvement with the ‘That was the week that was’ series, and incisive political interviews that included the classic with Richard Nixon, Sir David wrote his much-awaited autobiography. In the first paragraph, he described his earliest rocollections…being wheeled in his puchchair into ‘Brinklow’s’ store in Bedford road.
Note: Brinklow’s store stood close to the Kempston Liberal club, and the Newtown post office. Today, the Liberal club is an independant club called ‘Daley’s club’. Brinklow’s store remains a shop although now called ‘Paul’s Super Store.’
